Balthier Bunansa (Seasons 3+)
Named Ffamran Mid Bunansa at birth, Balthier was the son of Cidolfus Demen Bunansa, otherwise known as Doctor Cid. Cid had made his son an Imperial Judge, but unamused and tired of his father's obsession of Nethicite, Balthier cut ties with his and became a free spirited sky pirate; by doing such, he had acquired a large bounty on his head. He and his Viera companion, Fran, pilot the Strahl, an impressive airship that aids the main characters of Final Fantasy XII to travel about Ivalice.
Balthier first appears before he and Fran plan to steal Goddess's Magicite. It is here that they encountered Vaan, a young man dwelling in the streets of Rabanastre in hopes of becoming a sky pirate. The two pirates begin to travel with him, and although remaining neutral, they eventually are entangled in the epic war between Archadia and Dalmasca. Along the way, Balthier confronts Dr. Cid, and a battle ensues. Before his father's death, he had made peace before destroying Bahamut, Cid's acclaimed Sky Fortress. Ultimately, Fran and Balthier are believed to be dead after the Bahamut's fall, but within a year, they reemerge in Revenant Wings and embark on a journey to find the Cache of Glabados.
A month after the events of Revenant Wings, Balthier becomes consumed by a vortex and is transported into the world of Riyona. The sky pirate resumes his role as bandit until Vincent Valentine discovers him.
